Hut Info
Hazel Hut is named after the historic Hazel mine claim located in the hills above the property. The cabin is a handcrafted timberframe built with local, natural materials such as woodchip clay walls, clay plasters, adobe floors & solar power.
Located at the top of Highway 31A in Retallack (halfway between New Denver and Kaslo). There is year round vehicle access to the cabin. The North side of Highway 31A is adjacent to Goat Range Provincial Park known for big mountains and amazing views.
Skitouring from the highway is common, but expect long approaches & descents on WW ridge, London ridge & 1500m descent of Mt Brennan. The 1:50,000 topo map is Roseberry 082K03. Short logging and mining roads provide access to some of the most popular hikes in the area such as London Ridge, Mt Brennan, Mt Reco & Whitewater Creek Trail. There are many long mountainbike trails in the New Denver-Retallack-Kaslo also.
Please note: There is currently no sign marking the access road to the hut. If you require directions, please ask.
